HOW IT ALL STARTED
Hi, I’m Edel, an Irish artist born and raised in lovely Co. Carlow.
I’ve always loved drawing, ever since I was a child, but I never imagined I would one day become a professional artist. It was a passion, not a clear path.
Art by Edel came to life in a personal, unexpected way. It started with another year of racking my brain trying to come up with a meaningful birthday present for my Dad.
Finally, instead of trying to find something meaningful to give him,
I decided to draw what was meaningful to him.
He’s a farmer in rural Ireland, deeply connected to the land that has been passed down through generations, the place he’s called home all his life. With pen and paper, I captured the land, the farm, his childhood home that’s stood for over 100 years, our own home, the names he gave to each field, and the Gaelic names of our houses.
And so, the first house and farm map portrait was born.
He loved it. Friends loved it. And I loved creating it. Requests started to come in...
Now, I create bespoke, hand-drawn artworks that capture places close to people’s hearts, whether it’s the magic of a wedding day, the nostalgia of a family home, or the excitement of a new build beginning.
Every place tells a story, and I feel incredibly lucky to help preserve those memories through art.
